Section 1: Temping Overview

  • What types of temporary roles can Appointments help me with?

    We recruit office professionals for various roles including accounts, customer service, administration, data entry, call centre, reception, secretarial, marketing, HR and managerial positions and many more!



    We also recruit for a variety of industrial, manufacturing, production and warehouse positions; from operative to managerial positions.

  • I am interested in using Appointments Personnel for work-finding services, what do I do?

    Simply upload your cv here at our cv drop and your cv will be reviewed within 24 hours during the working week and 48 hours if your cv lands with us over the weekend. 

  • How do I register with Appointments Personnel?

    Registering with Appointments Personnel couldn’t be simpler! After your cv has been reviewed and if we think we can support you in your search for temporary work you will be sent an email containing a link to our registration pack, which is completed online.



    In line with Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), our registration pack contains our terms of engagement.  The terms confirm the type of contract, a pledge of payment, the type of work you will be doing and any length of notice we have to give to you and vice versa.



    One of our qualified recruitment specialists will then contact you if we have a suitable job opportunity to discuss with you and will then be able to arrange a registration meeting. 



    At any time, you will also be able to view our live vacancies on our website through our jobs board facility and apply for any positions of interest directly.



  • How do I prove my right to work?

    Appointments Personnel has an obligation to check right to work documents. In order to comply with both immigration and equality law we carry out checks on every work-seeker who registers with Appointments Personnel.  You will be able to upload documents within our registration pack but you may also be asked to bring original documentation into the office at your registration meeting. 

  • Do Appointments Personnel recruit for part-time positions?

    Yes, although not as common as full-time positions, we do recruit for positions on a part time basis.

  • Can I take on temporary positions whilst looking for permanent roles?

    Yes you can! Many candidates take on temporary positions whilst searching the perfect permanent role. Taking on temporary assignments is also a good way to see which environment suit you best.

  • Do I have to accept every job I am offered?

    No – if you do not feel that the temporary position we have offered you is suitable for you, please let us know as soon as possible.





  • What are the benefits of temporary assignments?

    Temping offers a realistic alternative to permanent work and has many benefits:



    • Gives you the chance to gain experience, providing an opportunity to develop new skills and enhance your CV.
    • Gives you the opportunity to meet new people and learn about new industries, management styles and work cultures.
    • Gives you more control over your working life and allows you to choose when you work, and for how long.
    • Can help you to try new things and can be a stepping stone to the job you want, you can decide what you like and dislike, and to define your strengths and weaknesses. 
    • Allows you to move jobs easily with little or no notice.
    • Can be used as a way of entering or re-entering the job market.
    • Can also lead to the possibility of permanent employment.

Section 2: FAQ For Appointments Persnnel Temp Workers

  • Do you require my P45?

    We will require your P45 from you when starting a new assignment to enable us to put you on the correct tax code.  A P46 (New Starter Checklist) is provided in our registration pack for you to complete should you not have a P45. 

  • Will I be provided with information before I start my temporary assignment?

    We will discuss the role in depth with you to ensure the role is right for you. In return we ask that should you accept the assignment, you commit to all aspects of the job including hours of work, location and length of assignment.



    Should you accept the assignment, you will receive our temporary assignment details form. The form will confirm your start date, length of assignment, location of assignment, hours you are expected to work and any health and safety risks.

  • What happens once I have started my temporary assignment?

    Once you have started a temporary assignment for Appointments Personnel, you will receive a call from your recruitment consultant to ensure you are happy with your assignment. It is important that you understand your contract for services that is issued to you at registration.





  • Where do I get a timesheet?

    Once you are assigned to a role you will receive an email containing a link to our portal which gives you access to your online timesheet.





  • What is the procedure for filling in a timesheet?

    Once you have started an assignment you will be able to confirm your hours on the portal and submit for approval at the end of the week or the assignment whichever is soonest.



    Your timesheet needs to be completed and submitted for approval by 10am on a Monday morning.



    The client/hirer will check and approve your hours. 

  • If your timesheet is not received on time, this will result in your wages being delayed.

    If you are working on an assignment where we have a number of workers placed, the client will complete your timesheet on your behalf and will submit this to Appointments Personnel each week. You will be advised when accepting your assignment if this is applicable to you.





  • Do you take money from me for finding me work?

    No not at all, you will receive payment for the hours in which you work.  We are responsible for deducting income tax and national insurance from your pay through the PAYE (Pay as you Earn) system from your gross pay before you receive your net pay.





  • When do I get paid?

    Payment will be made by BACS and will be paid into your bank account on the Friday following the week worked. 



    All temporary workers receive a payslip corresponding to each week worked. Your payslip will be emailed to your personal email address each week and the standard password to open it is ‘Password’ capital P then lower case. If you wish to change your password please call the payroll department. 



    You must ensure that you have supplied us with your bank details prior to starting work on your assignment. These are normally completed at the time of registration in our registration pack.   • What details will I see on my payslip?

    The payslip you receive will show:



    • Your earnings before tax – “gross pay”
    • Income tax, national insurance contributions and student loan repayments, if relevant, that were deducted from your pay
    • Your earnings after tax – “net pay”
    • Your tax code – used to calculate the amount of tax to deduct from your pay
    • Any statutory and holiday payments (where relevant)
    • Total pay and total tax to date
  • What happens if I am unable to attend work?

    If you are going to be late or absent from work for whatever reason you must inform Appointments Personnel immediately. We will then inform the client/hirer of your absence, so that suitable cover can be arranged.



    By the end of the day you must call us to advise if you will be back in work the following day.

    You will be able to record any sick days on your timesheet through the portal.



    As a temporary worker employed under a ‘contract for services, you may be eligible for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) provided that you meet the relevant statutory criteria.

  • Am I entitled to paid holidays?

    Working Time Regulations state everyone should have at least 20 days per year (which can include bank holidays) away from work. When you start a new assignment, you will accrue your entitlement to paid holiday.

  • How is my holiday pay calculated?

    The minimum statutory leave for temporary workers is 5.6 weeks. This means that full time workers (those working 5 days per week) would be entitled to 28 days statutory leave per year (E.g. 5.6 x 5 days = 28 days). 



    If you are working 5 days a week, your holidays are accrued at a rate of 0.60 days for each standard hour week worked. If you work less hours in a particular week then your accrual of holiday entitlement and holiday pay will be less. 



    Your holiday year runs from your individual start date e.g. start date 16.07.2010, end date 16.07.2011. All holidays accrued during the 12 months must be taken within this year. Failure to take any outstanding holidays by the end of the holiday year will result in any outstanding holidays being lost. Holidays cannot be carried over to the next year and cannot be paid without taking the days off. This is to ensure that you have time off and rest.

  • What do I need to do if I want to take a holiday?

    You can access and download a holiday form through the portal.



    Fill in the days that you would like to take as holiday, and then obtain signed authorisation from the client/hirer you are working for.



    Once completed, email your request form to payroll@appointmentspersonnel.co.uk



    We advise you to confirm receipt of the form, either by email or phone. Notice must be given before holidays are taken, e.g. for one week off, one week’s notice must be given.



    You will be able to record any holidays on your timesheet through the portal.

  • What happens to National Insurance Contributions?

    NI contributions are earnings related – the contributions you pay depend on how much you earn, and are laid down by the government. You pay national insurance contributions if you are over the age of 16, but stop paying when you reach state pension age. If you are exempt from paying national insurance contributions, we will need a copy of your National Insurance Exemption Certificate.





  • How do bank holidays affect my holiday pay?

    If your employer does not work bank holidays and you would like to be paid for the bank holidays, providing that you have the sufficient holidays available, please request holiday pay as explained above.

  • Can I work overtime?

    This can differ from client to client and each booking is treated in isolation. Please contact your consultant at Appointments Personnel before agreeing to work any overtime hours, who will be able to confirm with our client the overtime rule and provide you with details of any overtime pay rates. Please note overtime rates will not be paid as standard unless previously agreed with our client.





  • Will there be a notice period whilst on assignment?

    If you wish to terminate your assignment early for whatever reason, although no formal notice is required, we do ask for 24 hours’ notice out of courtesy.





  • What is the code of conduct whilst on assignments?

    Whilst representing Appointments Personnel, we ask that you adhere to our code of conduct. This includes being punctual and treating all information that you come into contact with whilst you are working on an assignment in the strictest confidence.



    The use of client’s equipment to browse the internet, including social media sites, send personal emails or make personal calls is not permitted. Mobile phones should always be switched off during working hours.



    We pride ourselves on our outstanding service, we ask that you represent Appointments Personnel professionally whilst you are conducting your assignment. 

  • What is the dress code on assignments?

    For each assignment the dress code can be different, as a general rule smart business dress is acceptable for office assignments, you will be advised when you accept a temporary assignment of the company’s dress code.

  • What if my temporary job becomes permanent?

    Sometimes, temporary positions can become permanent which is great news of course. If this occurs, Appointments Personnel will ensure that you are sent your P45 and are paid all outstanding holiday entitlement. If you are approached directly by the company regarding permanent work, please inform your consultant or a member of the Appointments team immediately who will be able to assist you.

  • Does Appointments Personnel have a refer a friend scheme?

    If you have friends or family that you would like to introduce to Appointments, we have a refer a friend scheme. Receive £25 per referral, after they complete the required qualifying period.

Section 2: Useful Information

  • Agency Worker Rights (AWR)

    The AWR legislation was introduced to protect the working and employment conditions or temporary workers, contractors and freelancers.



    If you choose to work through Appointments Personnel as a temporary worker, you will be classed as an ‘agency worker’.



    From day 1 of your assignment you will be entitled to access the same facilities as an employee such as staff canteens, food and drinks machines, toilets, showers, childcare, workplace creche, car parking or transport services.  You will also have the right to be informed about any job vacancies, although you may not always be eligible to apply for them.



    After 12 weeks on an assignment, you will be entitled to equal pay as a permanent employee doing the same job, equal treatment with permanent employees in regard to rest breaks, holiday entitlement and working time and paid time off for ante-natal appointments. 

  • What rights do I have as an agency worker?

    All agency workers are entitled to the following:



    • National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage
    • Protection from unlawful deductions from wages
    • Statutory Sick Pay
    • Statutory Maternity and Paternity Pay, Share Parental Pay and Adoption Pay
    • Statutory holiday entitlement – 5.6 weeks paid holiday a year
    • Minimum rest breaks
    • Maximum working time – 48 average hours a week, or you can opt out of this if you choose (a form is provided a registration)
    • To be automatically enrolled onto a pension if you mee the required criteria
    • Protection from unlawful discrimination under the Equality Acy 2020
    • Protection for whistleblowing
    • Health and safety protections
    • Right not to be charge direct or indirect fees for finding a job
    • Protections from being restricted from working elsewhere
  • Workplace Pension – Auto Enrolment

    The law on workplace pensions has changed. Under the Pensions Act 2008 every employer in the UK must put certain staff into a pension scheme and contribute towards it. This is called ‘automatic enrolment’. Appointments Personnel has certain legal duties under this new ruling.  You will be automatically enrolled with Nest, our pension provider at your twelfth week of employment.   • How is my personal data stored?
