Health and Safety Manager

This role of Health and Safety Manager is to manage the business’s compliance within its statutory health and safety obligations as a manufacturing site to ensure industry best practice is embedded within the safe day to day delivery of all operational activity.

Main Responsibilities – Health and Safety Manager

  • Stay abreast of Government health and safety policy discussions
  • Interpret and communicate forthcoming amendments to legal requirements and best practice to senior management in advance of their implementation
  • Develop practical guidelines, preventative measures, company procedures, directives and policy, ensuring a central point of best practice is held within the organisation
  • Develop, maintain and implement a Health and Safety performance improvement plan
  • Monitor employees’ health and safety training requirements, develop and instigate training courses as required
  • Manage the production and distribution of effective Health and Safety communications and publications to raise awareness and advance the health and safety culture. Ensuring this is understood by all employees
  • Promote a positive culture towards H&S compliance
  • Monitor compliance through random and regular site audits and ensure corrective actions are addressed where appropriate
  • Maintain, analyse and report on audit and data to identify trends and opportunities to improve safety performance
  • Produce regular reports on progress, issues and opportunities to improve to senior management
  • Undertake reviews of Workplace assessments to ensure H&S management of office environments meet expectations

Key skills

  • Proven track record in a similar role within a manufacturing industry
  • Project Management experience, with a strong focus on delivering KPI
  • NEBOSH diploma or equivalent (or working towards)
  • Excellent understanding of all aspects of Health, Safety & Environment (including legislation, audit handling and management systems)
  • Able and prepared, to make significant decisions in a timely manner
  • Proven ability to delegate and inspire others to take responsibility for HS&E
  • Be a team player with excellent communication skills, who can build and maintain good relationships
